Say 'NO' to 'Quit Smoking'

If you are a smoker, you must be encircled by friends and relatives advising you to quit smoking. They care concerned. They are sincere in their counsel. Sometimes they request; some even threaten to sever contact if you do not promise to quit smoking. All they want of you is to give up the habit with ample reasons besides the most commonly printed warning on cigarettes packets – ‘cigarette smoking is injurious to health’.

You cannot be offensive to the quite evident well-wishers. The commonest answer ‘I am trying to quit smoking’, while you know very well that you are not even going to give it a try. Then, why don’t you react to them with a stern ‘NO’? Just say that you are not going to quit smoking.

Well, since they are your well-wishers, and they care for your health and wellbeing, you have to show reasons as to why you must not quit smoking. Agreed that smoking harms health. Then tell them that the pollution around us causes more harm. In fact, problems caused by cigarette smoking are almost negligible in comparison to those caused by the pollution in the world we live.

Most of such well-wishers happen to be non-smokers. So, they have no idea about what withdrawal symptom is. It is very hard to overcome the trauma of withdrawal experiences. It affects the body. It upsets the mind. After you give up smoking, you may suffer from acidity, breathing trouble and digestion problems.

The worst thing happens to your mind when you give up smoking. Everything seems tremendously irritating to you, even though you would have liked them in your normal condition. You will become short tempered. You will have the sense that you have lost something or you are deprived of something. Why taking up so many troubles and suffer so many problems for giving up something that you like and love?
